Unstitched vs stitched: which should you buy?

The short answer

Buy stitched if you want it ready to wear and standard sizing fits you. Buy unstitched if you want the fit, length and sleeve exactly as you wear them, and you have a tailor and about a week to spare. Unstitched costs less on the shelf and more once it is tailored.

What does unstitched actually mean?

Unstitched is fabric, not a garment. You receive the printed or embroidered pieces of a suit, uncut and unsewn, and you take them to a tailor. Nothing about it is sized until someone measures you.

Sets are sold by how many pieces are in the packet:

1-piece: — the shirt fabric on its own.
2-piece: — usually shirt and dupatta, occasionally shirt and trouser. The product page says which, and it is worth checking rather than assuming.
3-piece: — shirt, trouser and dupatta — a complete suit once it has been stitched.

Piece count is a filter on the catalogue, so you can narrow to complete sets before you look at anything else.

What does stitched mean, and how is it sized?

Stitched is ready to wear. It arrives sewn, hemmed and finished in a standard size, and you can put it on the day the parcel opens.

The trade-off is that you are buying a size rather than your measurements. Sizing is not standardised across Pakistani labels — a medium from one brand is not a medium from another — so where a product page carries a size guide, use that guide rather than a size you remember from somewhere else.

What does an unstitched suit actually cost once it is tailored?

The shelf price is not the price. An unstitched suit has four cost lines, and only the first one is ours.

We do not set stitching charges and will not pretend to quote them. As a rough shape of the market: a plain three-piece at a neighbourhood tailor is typically a few thousand rupees, and a named boutique tailor several times that, with embroidery, lining and heavy finishing pushing it further. The only number worth budgeting against is the one your own tailor gives you before the scissors come out.

How long does stitching take?

A plain suit: about a week to ten days at most tailors.
Lined, embroidered or heavily finished: closer to two weeks.
The month before Eid, and through wedding season: three to four weeks is a normal quote, and running over it is normal too. Book early or buy stitched.

Can you return either one?

Unstitched: — yes, within 7 days of delivery, as long as it is unused and unwashed and still carries its tags. Cutting the fabric ends that — a cut piece is not unused — so the decision has to be made before it reaches your tailor.
Stitched: — custom-tailored garments are not returnable. That is the one line in the policy worth reading before you order, not after.
Wrong or damaged, either one: — a separate and shorter rule: contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos and we arrange a free pickup and a replacement or full refund.

Is unstitched cheaper than stitched?

On the shelf, yes. Once stitching charges, lining, buttons and a second trip to the tailor are added, the two usually land close together. What unstitched buys you is fit and control over the design, not necessarily a lower final number.

Can I return an unstitched suit to Ilaaf Online?
